The FDA Advisory Committee recently recommended new restrictions on acetaminophen. This popular pain killer is found in many prescription drugs and over the counter (OTC) products including Tylenol, Excedrin and cold medicines.

The FDA recommendation followed the release of a report finding severe liver damage and death can result from acetaminophen-related overdoses. Consumers may exceed the recommended acetaminophen dose accidentally since it's present in so many products. According to the FDA, acetaminophen combined with hydrocodone is the most frequently dispensed drug.

The advisory committee recommended lowering the maximum dose of OTC acetaminophen to no more than 650 mg (the current dose is 1,000 mg). They also recommended that prescription medications combining acetaminophen with other drugs (such as Vicodin, Percocet and Tylenol with codeine) should be eliminated.

Arthritis Pain

If you suffer from arthritis pain, chances are your medical doctor prescribed pain killers. Unfortunately, many of these pain killers, including acetaminophen, are associated with severe and even deadly side effects. Acetaminophen can cause liver damage, prescription pain drugs like Celebrex have been shown to increase the risk of heart attack and aspirin can cause bleeding of the stomach.

A safer alternative would be to utilize natural ingredients that repair and regenerate affected joints. Numerous studies have demonstrated that supplementing with nutrients like chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, BioCell Collagen II, methylsulfonyl methane (MSM), boswellia, cat's claw and turmeric can effectively relieve the pain and inflammation of arthritis. They may also stop the progression of the disease by helping the body repair damaged joints.

Glucosamine and chondroitin are natural sources of specialized molecules called GAGs (glycosaminoglycans). GAGs are found in cartilage, where they provide structure or "filler" in the extracellular matrix of collagen in joints. BioCell Collagen Type II is a protein that provides cartilage with structural strength. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a protein and key component of connective tissues such as tendons, ligaments and cartilage, as well as synovial fluid lubricating the joints. Research suggests that these nutrients can maintain and improve bone and joint health, promote regrowth of cartilage and relieve joint inflammation, swelling, stiffness and pain.

Boswellia serrata, cat's claw, turmeric, and MSM are natural anti-inflammatory agents. Boswellia's active ingredient, boswellic acid, has been shown to block the production of enzymes in the body that cause inflammation. Cat's claw contains glycosides that have been shown to reduce inflammation. Turmeric contains potent antioxidants that inhibit certain compounds from causing inflammation. MSM is a natural form of dietary sulfur that is used to reduce inflammation and arthritis pain.

Exomine Relief

Taking a natural arthritis supplement like Progressive Health's Exomine can reduce and prevent inflammation in your joints and help relieve your pain symptoms.  Exomine and Exomine RH are specifically developed for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis symptoms management.
